Caledonian Point and Meridian Quay
Greenwich, London UK

Meridian Quay (formerly known as Hiltons Wharf), is a new high density mixed use development in Greenwich. The scheme has transformed a vacant site on the edge of Deptford Creek with a design inspired by warehouse and dock buildings, reinterpreting this typology to create 85 high quality apartments along with commercial space and basement parking. Homes within the private led development are being built to Lifetime Home standards and benefit from private terraces, balconies and winter gardens, offering generous amenity space and excellent views across the creek. Flexible commercial and work space is provided on the ground floor, creating an active street frontage. Having successfully designed the scheme up to planning, bptw worked with contractor Durkan to take the designs forward in Revit. This was the first collaborative BIM project undertaken by the client, contractor and external consultants. The use of BIM at Hilton’s Wharf provided significant improvements in co-ordination between consultants which helped to reduce construction clashes between disciplines and ensure a smooth construction process. Caledonian Point, Greenwich was conceived by bptw partnership to enable the redevelopment of their former studios, this mixed use development next to Deptford Creek will reinvigorate the sense of activity along Norman Road and re-establish the urban grain. The development was brought forward by the original landowners, including Hiltons Wharf Investments, and was sold to Family Mosaic after planning permission was secured. Marketed as Charters Wharf, the development was constructed by Durkan with bptw carrying out the detailed design. In addition to new studios for bptw, the development has created 85 well designed and spacious new homes offering a mix of private for sale, shared ownership, social rent, and live-work accommodation. The scheme is enabling the opening up of the riverside along Deptford Creek for public access with a new pedestrian and cycle route enhanced by public realm proposals that will connect planned developments on adjoining sites in the future. High quality contemporary apartments with balconies will maximize views across Deptford Creek and further into Greenwich. Architect: bptw partnership
