Captains Walk and Captains View, Llanrumney
Cardiff UK

Cardiff Living is an innovative development partnership between Cardiff Council and Wates Residential. Launched in January 2016, the ten year programme is designed to tackle the growing demand for housing in the city and will deliver 1500 homes across the city, at least 40% of which will be council properties, available to rent or buy via the Council’s Assisted Home Ownership Scheme. The new homes will offer enhanced living environments that will meet high levels of sustainability and energy efficiency, and each development will promote physical activity through the built environment. One of the key objectives of the project, in addition to delivering vital new homes, is to invest in the local communities by creating employment and training opportunities for local residents, including apprenticeships and work experience placements. Captains Walk and Captains View is a development of 107 new houses and apartments on two sloping brownfield sites in Llanrumney. Both sites occupy long and narrow strips of land running alongside the adjacent roads of Braunton Crescent and Clevedon Road and are separated by a swathe of parkland which will also be improved as part of the scheme. There will be a total of 40 affordable dwellings across the development, built to standards that exceed the DQR and Lifetime Homes. Client: Cardiff Living / Cardiff Council / Wates Residential. Architects: Pentan Architects. Main Contractor: Wates Residential. Civil and Structural Engineers: Cambria Consulting
